Dungeon crawler is a role-playing type of game in which the player explores the labyrinth-style environment, fighting different monsters and looting treasures. Usually, these games have no special plot, and the game becomes more and more difficult as you play. Your goal is to level up, achieve better equipment and fight stronger enemies.
The first game of this type is Pedit5, developed in 1975 by Rusty Rutherford on the PLATO Interactive Education System. Soon after, several games similar to Pedit5 appeared.
Today, you can find dungeon crawler games on almost every platform, including Android. Since there are many dungeon crawler games available on Play Store, we have tested and reviewed the best ones in the genre.
To use the available applications at its optimum level, you might need to update Play Store from time to time.

8 Best Dungeon Crawler Games for Android
After extensive testing, we have compiled a list of best Dungeon Crawler games for Android, in terms of graphics and gameplay. We have provided a Play Store link for each, so don’t hesitate to download.
1. Pixel Dungeon
When you start the game, you get a notification that “you will die often”. Many people considered this game very difficult and luck based, however, it becomes simpler when you learn a few tricks.
The gameplay is very addictive but you need nerves of steel, at least in the first 30-60 mins of playing. You can choose between Warrior, Mage, Rogue, and Huntress, and each of them has pros and cons, depending on your style of playing.
You can loot many weapons and items, fight various monsters and get achievements. Besides that, you must pay attention not to starve to death.
The game is definitely worth a try! Download it from the link below.
2. Soul Knight
Soul knight offers you 170+ different weapons in randomly generated dungeons. It’s a new experience every time you play. Besides that, you can also find NPCs that actually fight by your side.
The game also supports local multiplayer mode for up to 4 players, which can be pretty interesting. Controls are user-friendly, and the gameplay is smooth and enjoyable. There is also an auto-aim mechanism for super intuitive control.
Graphics are pixel-style which can bring a nostalgic feeling. The game is great both in terms of graphics (and animations), and gameplay. Be sure to check it out!
3. Dungeon Loot
Another great game with very specific gameplay. You don’t actually move your hero – every dungeon is created as a 7×5 grid of blocks, so you have to tap the block to see what awaits you there.
The goal is to find a key to the end of a dungeon, and you get a bonus if you reveal all the tiles. When you tap a block, you might encounter an enemy, or find a loot. It’s an endless dungeon, so your goal is to reach as far as you can.
You can choose between 4 characters, and each of them has different abilities. The gameplay is quick and smooth, with beautiful and cute graphics. The game is free but offers in-app-purchases.
4. Dungelot: Shattered Lands – $3.99
Dungelot takes you on an epic roguelike adventure across three big worlds. There are 18 dungeons to fight through, and you can choose between 4 characters.
Dungeons are made out of tiles in a particular grid, similar to Dungeon Loot. Your goal is to find a key in order to proceed to the next, more difficult dungeon. There are many weapons and items to be found.
The game also features mini-games and side-quests which spices up the feeling. It was updated almost 3 years ago, however, the game is still pretty decent. It’s not free, and also it offers in-app-purchases for various items.
5. Dungeon Hunter 5
This is a roguelike dungeon crawler created by Gameloft. Unlikely the other games we reviewed, this one is more complex. It offers over 900 pieces of armor and weaponry and hundreds of spells and skills.
You can play in a Co-op multiplayer mode with up to 3 friends, or invite friends online for help. There are also many guilds which you can join or which you can fights against in epic online battles.
Graphics are absolutely great, as you can see from the screenshot. The game also offers different customizations for your heroes.
The game is free but offers IAPs for various items.
6. Nonstop Knight
A combination of the idle and dungeon-crawler genre. There are tons of enemies to be defeated and a lot of equipment to be found for your clicker hero. You can even collect pets in your pet collection, to help you survive the dungeon.
Offline play, endless upgrade system, and Legendary weapons and armors are just a few of many things that make this game great. Idle and stress-free gameplay can help you relax while keeping you entertained.
You can play it in a short coffee break, or for a longer period of time – even when you are not playing, you collect gold in a certain frequency of time. It seems that the game is updated very often, since the last update was on April 25, 2019.
The game is free but offers various IAPs.
7. Dungeon Boss
A turn-based Dungeon Crawler which lets you build teams of powerful heroes that you can upgrade, and conquer other dungeons. You also have your dungeon which you have to defend.
As you progress through the game you will meet various heroes and characters that can join your team. Every character’s abilities can be upgraded and/or customized, by using crafting runes.
You can even create or join guilds and conquer other player’s dungeons. Just take care of your dungeon, and make sure that it’s safe.
Graphics are very cute, with cartoon and fantasy elements. Definitely pleasing to the eye. Be sure to check it out!
8. Delver – $1.99
Delver is a pretty interesting game, probably because it’s a first-person dungeon crawler, unlike the other games on a list. Many enemies, loot and various skills to upgrade – it’s all there.
The goal in every play is to reach as far as you can – when you die, there is no “load game”. The levels are randomized, so you always play a different game. Besides that, you can play a quest to find Yithidian orb, in the darkest dungeons. However, finding it might be the easy part.
The game is not free, but once you buy it, you won’t have to care about having to pay for special features or items.
If you are a hardcore gamer and wish to experience Android gaming at it’s finest, you should definitely invest in an Android controller.
