FAQs

Do I need an internet connection to use radar detector apps?

Yes. You will need an internet connection so that the app can connect to its database. GPS (location) must also be enabled.

What is the difference between Radar detector devices and apps?

Most of the apps can show radar positions based on data that other users upload. Although it is very precise, it can’t replace the actual Radar detector device, which detects frequencies on its own.

Are we allowed to use radar detector apps?

The act of using radar detector apps is not illegal. However, in most countries, it’s illegal to use a mobile phone while driving. In some countries, it’s against the law to have a smartphone placed or visible on the car’s dashboard. If you need the assistance of a navigation system, then we highly recommend Android Auto instead.

For your safety, I strongly advise you to use these apps on Android Auto instead of on your phone while driving. Remember that using a mobile phone while driving is forbidden in many countries. Besides that, it’s also a big health hazard. If your car doesn’t support Android Auto, be sure to take a look at this device.

You can connect your phone to this device and use phone apps on it. Since it serves as a car dashboard, you won’t get fined. Also, it’s much easier to use than having to use a mobile phone.

Which app is the best for me?

All the apps I reviewed will perfectly serve their purpose. It all depends on what you’re specifically looking for in the app. In our opinion, Radar Beep seems to have the best (simple and user-friendly) interface. On the other hand, Waze offers the most features and the most accurate real-time data streaming. You can’t go wrong by installing and trying out any of the apps on the list.

Do you use any of the apps from the list? Which one is your favorite and why? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I learned by chance that Google maps has speed trap detection. I was using GPS and all of a sudden it said “speed trap ahead” (at about a 1 or 2 mile distance…then reminded about 1000 feet before you pass the trap)

Unfortunately some of the cars ahead of me were not using google maps…lol…
