Method 1: How to Change Notification Sounds on Default

Besides mastering your Android notification bar, the simplest way of changing notification sounds on an Android phone is through the built-in process. This is nearly the same, no matter which phone you’re using – quite an advantage of the Android system.

1. Go to Settings, then Sound and Notification.

2. Select Notification Sounds

Pick the service you want to customize the sounds for. It could be calls, messages or different apps.

3. Select the sound you want from the list, then press OK

You will hear the sound when you tap on it. Also, if you want to select ringtones from your media files, they should be present on the list as well.

Method 2: How to Customize Notification Sounds with 3rd Party Apps

You can either make your own ringtones or choose from the ones an app provides. For this, we’ve used a third-party app called Zedge. You can also use this app to set different wallpapers and to customize your phone even further. There are many other alternatives available for this.

Tap the menu button on the top left part of the screen. After the side menu opens, tap Ringtones.

Select the sound you like from the list – you can preview them by clicking on them, then set them as notification for what you want.

Method 3: How to Change Notifications According to Apps

Nowadays, we rarely use the built-in communication options that we get with our phone. That happens simply because there are better options. This doesn’t mean, though, that you can’t customize third-party apps with the sounds that you love! We’ll show you how to change the notification sounds for WhatsApp, and Facebook Messanger.

1. Tap on the Menu and go to Settings

Tap on the three dots on the top right corner of the screen. Then select Settings from the short drop-down menu.

2. Tap on Notification tone and Select Your Ringtone App

You can either choose from the default sounds (by choosing Themes as the app) or try something new and set a notification sound through a third-party app.

You can also customize the notification light (if you have this option) or set different ringtones according to the type of notification you’re getting.

How to Change Facebook Messenger Notifications

Facebook Messenger currently requires installing an app separately from Facebook. If you don’t have the app, you can download it here.

1.Go to Settings, then tap Notifications

Tap on your profile picture on the top left of the screen, then go to Notifications&Sounds.

2. Select One of the Pre-loaded Ringtones Available

This app doesn’t allow any ringtones apart from the pre-loaded ones at the moment.

If you’re using Facebook Lite, then you cannot change the notification sounds at all. You can either set your phone on vibrate or leave the tone as it is. With your phone on silent or vibrate, you’d get the LED notification light.

Even if the built-in options might seem to be the easiest way, they are quite limited. So we’d say that using a third-party app will give you more customizable options to change notification sounds.
