Google Chromecast 3rd gen Review

Google Chromecast Review: Is It Worth The Hype in 2022?

Let’s be honest.

The Google Chromecast has gone through a lot of phases. As a matter of fact, the device already has 3 generations. And I’m telling you, each generation was better than the previous one, all having a full HD display.

On top of that, Google also released Chromecast Ultra which supports Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4k streaming. And there’s indeed no doubt that Chromecast is a huge success.

If you don’t believe me, well, try to consider this:

With all the new devices being released here and there, it’s such a rare case that one will sell out, right? Magnificently, the 1st Generation Chromecast did. And it was such an in-demand product, that it sold out online upon its release. Iconic!

Now, you might wonder what’s the big deal with this device…

Well, Smart TVs are hella expensive. And most people already own a decent flatscreen LED TV. It will be a waste buying a new television solely because of its intelligent features.

But with the Google Chromecast, you can transform your basic TV to a Smart TV. The most important thing is, it will save you a lot of money while allowing you to stream movies through your TV, just like any other expensive Smart TVs.

It allows you to enjoy smart features without breaking the bank. That’s why everyone wanted to have it.

Chromecasts are now in because of a lot of things. So, if you want to know, then keep on reading.

Now, let’s get started!

1. It works like magic

We all know that one of the big reasons why Apple TV and Google TV were a failure was the fact that it was so complicated. Both Apple TV and Google TV uses data from the mobile which was such an inconvenience from a user experience point of view.

The Google Chromecast, on the other hand, is unique in a way that it takes data from the cloud while playing it on TV. This is the reason why you can still use your phone or tablet for other purposes while your Chromecast will continue to stream no matter what.

2. It’s dead cheap

Right off the bat, Google has set the price to $35 while it’s potential competitors like Apple TV costs about $99 and Google TV costs about $168 in Amazon upon release.

By reducing the price to a bare minimum, Google has attracted the mass market which is why the product sold out when they released the 1st generation Chromecast to the market.

3. No platform dependency

Another innovation in Chromecast is it is capable of running on all platforms. Amazing, I know.

Look:

Even if you have an iOS or Android device, you can still stream content on your TV. Google made the Chromecast perfectly compatible with the Windows platform as well, which allows you to use your laptop to cast.

4. It’s tiny

Unlike its competition, Chromecast is relatively small in size. It’s compact and easy to travel with.

The 1st generation Chromecast is less than 3inches in length while the 2nd and 3rd generation both have less than 3 inches in diameter.

5. Even a computer rookie can easily install

Chromecast has simplified the installation process. Just follow the following steps:

  1. Go to https://cast.google.com/chromecast/setup
  2. Download the app
  3. Install the app and sync the device
  4. Add Chromecast extension to the chrome browser
  5. That’s it!!!

Watch the below video for more details:

6. No remote control

Your phone acts as the remote. All you need to do is to download the Google Home App.

After this, all controls are available on your hand. There is no separate remote control setup that is needed. Its handsfree, so now you need not search for a remote to control Chromecast.

7. Cloud advantage

Chromecast used the cloud to stream video, so the major benefit is the battery of your device will not be used. What else can we expect from this device?!

8. Subscription channel

The subscription channel is an interesting feature in Chromecast. Right now Chromecast is subscribed to Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Hulu, HBO Now, Google Play Movies & TV, and Google Play Music, and more! With the existing subscription channel, you can watch whatever videos you want. The great news is this is not only the list and it is likely to expand soon. This is a piece of very good news indeed.

What does it look like?

Although we have established that the Google Chromecast has changed the way it looked over the years, it’s built-in features and ports are actually, the same.

  • Google Chromecast is a circular device connected to an HDMI. It also comes with a micro-USB port connection to which the power is supplied. The adaptor and micro-USB cord is included upon purchase of the product.

    1. I have been using the 3rd gen Chromecast ever since and there’s not a single time that it did not work. Using HDMI will do as well but the downside is it needs to be directly connected to the tv and it also uses your phone’s battery while you stream.
