Before We Dive In…

Not all LG Smart TV available on the market is supported by Google Assistant and Google Home. This technology is only available on Super UHD LCD TV or if your LG TV is running on WebOS 4.0. This means that the feature could be limited only to models like the B8, B8s, C8, E8, W8, LK64, LK54, SK80, SK90, SK95, UK 62, UK63, UK65, and UK77.

Not sure what operating system your LG Smart TV is running with?

Using your LG remote, do a long press on the “Settings” Button Select General > About This TV.

If you don’t find the same button on the remote that came with your smart TV, you can try by pressing the “Home” Button > Settings > Advanced > General > About This TV.

Method 1: Connecting Your LG Smart TV

Step 1: Set Up Your Google Home App.

To start the process, make sure that your Google Home is properly set-up beforehand. If this is your first time doing so, this post will guide you with everything you need to know in setting up your Google Home seamlessly.

Step 2: Register Your TV.

From your LG remote, press the Home button and select “Set Up TV for the Google Assistant” app. Simply follow the instructions to complete the registration.

It would ask you to sign-in with your Google or Facebook account. If you don’t want to link these accounts, you can create a separate LG account. From your TV, select Settings > General > Account Management.

Otherwise, you can download the “LG ThinQ” app from the Google Playstore and create your account from there.

Step 3: Link Away!

Using the Google Home App, you can link both devices by following the steps below:

1. Launch the “Google Home” app.
2. Select “Menu”.
3. Search “Home Control”. You will automatically be redirected to the “Google Assistant” App.
4. Tap on the “+” sign to add devices and select LG ThinQ. It will prompt you to sign in with your LG Account.

Alternatively, you can open the “Google Home” app, say “OK Google, talk to LG” and select “Link to LG” in the Discover tab. Just sign in and you’re all set.

Method 2: Using Google Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra

You can use Google Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra which connects via an HDMI port somewhere behind your TV. Here’s what you need to do.

Steps:

1. Plugin your Chromecast.
2. Connect devices to the same Wi-Fi connection. Make sure that your Chromecast, Android smartphone, and your Google Home is connected to a similar Wi-Fi connection.
3. Make sure that the Chromecast screen is visible on your LG TV.
4. From your smartphone, open the “Google Home” App.
5. Tap “Devices”.
6. Select “Add New Device”.
7. Follow the succeeding instructions.
8. Return to your “Google Home” app and tap “Continue”. A code will simultaneously appear on your TV and smartphone. Make sure that they match and tap “Next”. Follow the instructions.
9. To confirm syncing, go back again to the “Google Home” app. Scroll to “More Settings”.
10. Go to “TVs and Speakers” and tap the “+” icon.
11. Select the device to be paired and follow the succeeding instructions.
12. Once the pairing is finished, tap Done.

Use with Google Assistant

1. Press and hold the “Mic” button on the remote control to trigger the voice assistant.
2. Accept privacy agreement. Supported LG Smart TVs are already Google Assistant ready. All you need to do is go through the introductory screen and agree to the privacy agreement and information sharing that come with it. This allows Google Assistant to communicate with other smart devices in your home.
