Huawei P8 Lite’s Problems and Solutions: Troubleshooting Tips

Huawei P8 Lite Troubleshooting Problems and Solutions

With as nice as Android Lollipop is, it has its fair share of problems. The same is true when the Huawei P8 lite gets updated to 5.0 to shed its chocolate shell. Thankfully, the Huawei P8 lite’s problems have quick fixes and painless solutions. I’m going to mention the biggest problems the P8 lite has, but I have additional solutions for the smaller ones.

With most P8 lite problems, you can fix them by:

  • Performing a soft reset
  • Performing a hard reset
  • Wiping the cache partition
  • Turning the device on and off
  • Booting into safe mode

You don’t have to do all of these in order, but I’ll provide an explanation for each if you have a problem that you don’t see here.

1. Soft Resetting the P8 lite

One of the first troubleshooting tools in your arsenal is the soft reset. In most version of Android, all you need to do to soft reset is:

  • Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down
  • Keep these held down for ten seconds.

That’s it, and then your phone should reset. This is a process that’s recommended every three to four days, not just when you have an issue.

2. Hard Resetting the P8 lite

A hard reset is just what it sounds like, a more intense version of a soft reset. A hard reset will wipe all of your user data. There are multiple ways to hard reset an Android phone. Before performing a hard reset, otherwise known as a Factory Reset, backup all of your data because there is no getting it back.

A hard reset shouldn’t be your first option, but is a surefire way to fix any software issues.

3. Wiping the P8 lite’s Cache Partition

Thankfully, wiping the P8 lite’s cache partition isn’t any harder to do than on any other Android phone.

4. Booting the P8 lite into Safe Mode

Booting your phone into safe mode is an easy way to determine if a software issue is causing you a problem. Most often, if you have a software bug, it won’t show up while in safe mode. There are two easy ways to boot your phone into safe mode, just remember to turn it off when you’re done.

Now that I’m done going over all of the quick fixes, let’s get into the biggest P8 lite issues.

5. Inaccurate GPS

For some users, the GPS on the Huawei P8 lite can be inaccurate at measuring distance, and even correct directions.

I’d be lost constantly without my phone to guide me, so this is an issue that needs to be fixed immediately if you’ve noticed your GPS is acting strangely.

How to Fix It:

There are a few ways to fix the GPS desync or GPS inaccuracies. You can:

  • In your Battery or Energy settings, make sure your settings are defaulted to Normal.
  • Try switching to airplane mode for at least five minutes, and then try your GPS again.
  • Close out of other apps while using the GPS.
  • Perform either a soft reset, hard reset or a cache partition wipe.

6. Dispute on OTG Support

I’ve seen a few comments about OTG support (USB On the Go) not working on the Huawei P8 lite, and asking how to fix it. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this situation, because the P8 lite does not natively support this function.

If you’re looking for storage options on the Huawei P8 lite, you’ll need to stick to micro SD cards.

7. Inaccurate Keyboard

Nothing frustrates me faster than a malfunctioning keyboard, especially while I’m almost finished typing a message. Some P8 lite users have experience keyboard registering double taps on single-taps, and the wrong keys being pressed.

How to Fix It:

There isn’t one surefire way (aside from soft/hard resets) to fix this problem, but you can:

Change your current keyboard to a different one.

In your keyboard settings, disable vibration and popups.

Lastly, try a soft reset, and if that doesn’t work, a hard reset.

8. Denied Access to a Wi-Fi Network

It’s one thing to be denied access to a public Wi-Fi network, but what about your network at home? This isn’t just a problem with the P8 lite, but potentially all Android phones.

There’s almost nothing more important than keeping your phone connected, so this is an issue that deserves a quick a fix.

How to Fix It:

To fix your Wi-Fi access, you can:

First, try a soft reset before anything else.

Delete your connection settings on your device, and then reconnect them.

Move your phone closer to the Wi-Fi router before connecting again.

If NFC functions are enabled, disable them, and try connecting again.

As a last resort, you can perform a hard reset.

9. Huawei Home Not Responding

If you’ve been experiencing general lag with your P8 lite, and have received the message “Huawei Home is not responding. Would you like to close it?” You are thankfully (or unfortunately) not alone.

How to Fix It:

I’m not sure what causes this issue (other than a potential software bug), nor do I have a precise method to fix it. All you can do is follow the above methods at the beginning of the article until the lag and corresponding message disappear.

10. Can’t Enter Software Upgrade Mode

Updating the Huawei P8 is highly recommended. Not only will it fix some of the issues on this list, but it will prevent more of them from occurring. However, the suggested instructions to enter Software Upgrade Mode are incorrect.

How to Fix It:

To enter Software Upgrade Mode, hold down the power, volume up, and volume down buttons together at the same time for at least ten seconds.

11. Screen Recording Not Working

Screen recording isn’t essential but is a benefit that all Android users deserve to have it working as advertised.

If your recording functions aren’t working, there are a few steps you can take to fix it.

How to Fix It:

There’s only one fix for this problem aside from the usual methods. You’ll need to switch recording methods to either AZ Screen Recorder, or Shou. If neither of these apps work, your only option will be either a soft or hard reset.

12. IMEI Number Disappearing

Your IMEI number disappearing isn’t a common problem, but it’s an important one that needs to be quickly addressed. Normally, this doesn’t happen when your P8 lite is on the most recent firmware.

How to Fix it:

To fix this issue, you’ll need to wipe all user data and install the latest firmware update available. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any other legitimate methods to get the IMEI number to return.

Make sure you’ve backed up all of your user data before wiping.

Thankfully, there aren’t many Huawei P8 lite specific issues. The few issues that the phone has are more than troublesome, but can thankfully be fixed in a few minutes at most. Every problem has a solution, no matter how complex.

    1. Hi There,
Are you trying to connect to your home’s WiFi? Have you been able to connect before? Please try checking in settings and making sure everything is set up the way it should be. It happened to me once where I downloaded a few apps and for some strange reason some minor settings were changed, glitches I suppose.

  5. Have the same problem!!!!
All the other devices are connected but my P8 lite!!!

I have done everything …every kind of resets ! And yeah I have checked the setting for not being “never connect” at first !

    1. Are the developer options enabled? Removing them has been the solution for many users with this problem, or if possible, you can also upgrade your OS since this could be some type of bug that only an update can fix.

      1. Dear joa team,
i have the same problem and i think there is an update but i cant do the update as i dont have wifi access
        please help

        1. Most of the updates require a Wi-Fi connection because the files are large and some mobile connections are not as stable or as fast as they need for the download. Is there anywhere you can find Wi-Fi like a school, cafe, library…?

  6. My mobile huawei p8lite wifi is not turned on and also bluetooth what is the reason. I try factory reset not working wipe chache clearing not working mac address unavailable shown what can I do brother now

    1. Are you getting some type of error or is it that your phone won´t connect to Wifi without showing any message? Please check to see if the password you are entering is the correct one and you are trying to connect to the right network. Sometimes we think that we are entering the right password, but later realize we weren´t. Hope this helps.

      1. Hi,
I am having the sam problem on my p8 lite.It doesn’t let me turn on wifi or blutetooth. When I tried to go change that proxy, it says ‘unavaible’, I have done hard factory reset, wiped cache and tried most things,Can you help me.

        1. it sounds like the radios (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) are glitchy. Have you tried to boot to safe mode and connect it to either? That will eliminate the possibility of it being an app blocking something. Otherwise, I have seen people power down the phone, Volume down and power, clear the cache, power on the phone, plug in the headphones, turn on the built in FM radio for a couple of minutes, then try the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

      2. its like with the 5.0.1 update the radio side of the rom has been affected if making any sence, both wifi and bluetooth not working for me, it scans an thats about it, wouldnt mind rewinding the last update

        1. The updates can affect the operation of the phones. Sometimes they correct it right away if it’s the problem is widespread. Rooting is always an option to put a different Kernel or ROM on your device to eliminate the issue with the radios.

  7. Hi Joa Team
I have a same problem my wifi is not connecting and i only have a phone for 2months now but is not working i take a phone to vodacom they told me that my phone band and i dont understand

      1. Hi Vodacom Tell me that my phone is band inside they is the reason why they cant fix it and i have to pay 2000 so that they can give me new phone, they say is the reason why i cannot connect

        1. Hi Prudence,
Sorry to hear about that, but if it’s a hardware issue then nothing that doesn’t involve taking it in for service or replacing, is going to fix it. At least you can get a new phone now, time to start looking.

  8. i have same wifi or network access denied. i have done everything including the solutions mentioned above but still its not working.kindly tell me what should i do ..hope you will not suggest to buy a new one

    1. Try performing a soft reset on your Wi-Fi network, this is s especially helpful when the issue suddenly appeared. A soft reset of your network is a common solution and can often help fix the internet on your P8 and luckily there is no loss of data.
Unplug the power cable from your router/modem wait 30 seconds to a minute and then plug the power cord back into the router/modem. It may take a few minutes for the network to start-up again so give it 2-5 minutes to make sure everything was able to boot up as it’s supposed to and then check your P8 to see if the internet is working or not.

  9. My huawei p8 lite , When i turned on bluetooth its couldnot find any device to pair. What is the reason? How to fix it sir..?

    1. The reason why you are having trouble pairing could be because Bluetooth devices supporting the Bluetooth 4.2 standard should still be able to pair with devices using Bluetooth 2.1 but there are exceptions. The exceptions are gadgets that use a low-energy version called Bluetooth Smart, which works on a different protocol than older, or “Classic” Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth Smart devices are not backward compatible and won’t recognize (or pair with) older devices that support Classic Bluetooth. (For example, an old Sony Ericsson phone sporting Bluetooth 3.0 won’t be able to connect to a Bluetooth Smart device.). Hope this answers your question.

You can try things such as making sure the Bluetooth is turned on, see which pairing process your device uses, Turn on discoverable mode, Make sure the two devices are in close enough proximity to one another, Power the devices off and back on, Power down likely interferers, or erase a device from a phone and rediscover it.

  10. Access denied to every Wi-Fi network. At first it worked if the phone was like on top of the router, now it sopped working completely. I have tried soft and hard reset, disabling NFC functions, formatting cache partition, wiping ART and Dalvik cache… I have tried any and all solution i could find on the Internet, even upgrading, doing a rollback… Nothing works.

    1. you could have a damaged or malfunctioning antenna. This would require having your phone serviced. If you have a case on the phone, sometimes they can affect the performance of the devices; try to remove it.

  11. hi mam/sir
my phone is huawei p8 litebroght from saudi its wifi and bluetooth is also not connecting iam unable to send or receive any of the file through shareir, xender etc. will you plz find me a solution

    1. Hello Azeena, try to clear your phones cache memory, following step will help you, Boot into recovery mode by hold power + vol- + vol+ then->from the menu select wipe cache-> it will clear all of your phones cache memory. If it doesn’t fix your problem then it is a hardware damage, The best way to fix this is simply taking it to Huawei Customer Service, so they can change/repair the damaged hardware. I hope this information was helpful!

  12. Hi my huawei p8 lite have same problem with access denied to wifi network too andi tried everything. I have problem to for upgrading. currently its under Ale l02 android 5.0 emui 3 and i tried local update but its says failure. i press power and volume up and down for long and i thought it will update but it didnt. its says failure. can there be possibleb to downgrade the ALE L02 android 5.0 emui 3?

    1. You could take it in to a service center and they might be able to roll it back for you. Otherwise, you can look for methods on XDA Developers. I found this one, but it doesn’t look like it is your exact model/software version.

  13. Hello JOA team. I have had a issue where I can’t enter my home screen after a restart, and writting my password correctly. Is there anything that I can do?

    1. Which feature did you enable? There are some that won’t let the OS start until the password is entered, others require you to enter your password after it starts.

  14. hi I got Huawei P8 (AL121) but when i dial out people cannot hear me. on the phone screen there is a symbol of an headset but i have not connected any headset.

how can i remove the symbol. i did factory re-set but the headset symbol is still there

    1. it thinks there is a headset plugged in. Try to actually plug in a headset then remove it to see if that takes care of the issue. If not, there might be something lodged in the 3.5mm port.

  15. i have problem can’t connect to a wifi network, and restore firmware i downloaded here (link removed) and fail on proggress, now my phone have a bootloop problem, how to solve it ? what am I doing wrong step ? please respon 🙂

    1. was the Wi-Fi a problem before or after you tried to download the firmware? Why were you downloading the firmware? That problem could be a component in the problem of the bootloop. Try these tips to see if they help your problem with booting up.

  16. Hi, My P8 lite is coming up saying no service which means I cant make or revive calls or text ect as its not connected to a network where it has been up an till now. I have factory reset etc… Still nothing. Please please help…. Cheers!

    1. is it a SIM card error or just no network?

It could be a faulty antenna not letting it connect or a case with something disrupting the reception.

    2. Hello Josh, follow the steps to fix the “No Service” issue: Go to the Dial pad-> Type in (*#*#4636#*#*) NOTE: No need to press the send button, it will automatically appear the Service mode-> Enter Service mode-> Select on “Device information” or “Phone information”-> Select Run Ping test-> Click on the Turn Radio Off button and then the Huawei will restart-> Select reboot. Let me know if that solves your problem

    1. What happened to make it stop?

Have you tried to install a new keyboard? have you reset the app cache or the app data (erasing the app data will erase all of your autocorrect learnings)?

  17. Hi,
apparently wifi, bluetooth and GPS stopped to work. I did not install any new application.
I tried to soft restart as well as safe mode but nothing happened. I have H P8 lite ALE-L21 android 6.0. Thanks a lot

    1. was there an OS update or google services update that may have broken it? Sometimes if the phone was dropped or a new case is added, it can affect the wireless antennas.

      1. Actually there wasnt any. I also tried to wipe cache and hard reset but no change. I found out that also radio doesnt work. When im trying to set wifi on, its grey and do not turn on at all.

        1. sounds like something is blocking the antennas and it’s a hardware problem. Short of master resetting the phone to make sure it’s not the apps or versions of the apps, I am not sure what to tell you.

You didn’t mention if you had a case on it or it was dropped or jarred recently.

  18. Hi I am new to JOA,
Thank you many good information, I have a problem with connecting bluetooth devices, like sending from a mobile to my Huawei P8, or using external bluetooth headphones, any recommendations.
    Thank you

    1. what is happening when you try? what steps are you following to pair the devices? Which devices are you trying to pair to?

    1. why didn’t you write it down? Your demand is a rude way to ask for help for something that is your fault.

To answer your question, YOU will need to reset your password by signing into your Google account. If you don’t have this information either and can’t recover it from the Forgot password link in Gmail or, you will need to reset your phone and start over with a new Gmail account and download all of your apps and lose all of your information.

  19. I have a same issue.. My p8 lite is connecting to all wifi devices just not connecting to my home wifi device.. Is it a software issue or hardware?? Plzzz tell me.. 3 times i have reset my mbl but still not working it just give saved, secured ???

    1. there are some devices that don’t like to connect to some networks. It is likely the router. Try to reset the modem and router. If it persists, you can clear the system cache. If that doesn’t work, you can look into the router settings to see if the MAC address is being rejected or set a new IP address.

  20. I use a cell c sim card on a Vodacom Huawei P8 after I had used MTN for a while.I always have network problems where I am unable to make or receive calls and smses (mobile network not available) ,while there`s full bars dispalying the network signal on the screen but have no problem with Wifi and data connection. Please assist.

    1. are you in the same country?

Is the phone locked where it wouldn’t allow a different SIM?

      Is the phone rooted?

    1. Sometimes it can take the phone a moment to turn all the settings back and re-establish connections. Is this what you’re referring to?

  21. Good day. I have a problem with my p8 lite. We recently move from south Africa to Australia and switch network. Now my data rooming can’t work. Would not switch on. We dit do a factory data reset. Dit not work. Can eney one give me advice please. Thanks Carika

    1. Hi, Carika. Moving internationally with a phone can be tricky. Make sure that the SIM card is not locked to the country you moved from and your Network Operator setting is correct. These are two of the most common reasons for connectivity issues when moving or travelling internationally.

  22. my huawei p8 doesnt want to connect to wifi i have tried everything but nothing is workin, please help

    1. Hi, Zanele. There are lots of possible reasons you may have wifi connection problems. Would you mind answering a couple questions so we can narrow down possible solutions? First, does it have problems connecting to all wifi networks or just the one at your home? If it’s just the one at home, are other devices able to connect to the wifi? Second, were the phone and router purchased in the same country?

  23. I seem to have a problem with my alarm clock. It sets just fine but it never goes off. I’ve been in this struggle for a couple of days now. Sooo frustrating. Please help.

    1. Try clearing your clock app’s data and cache, then force closing it. You should also check that there’s not another app that’s preventing the alarm from running in the background. 27. Hi there, My daughter in new Zealand do not receive my sms messages from south afrca from my Huawei p8 lite phone. what can be the problem? Iuse pay as you go

  28. My wifi and bluetooth stopped working a year ago, blue tooth did not work at all and wifi displayed bad signal on wifi networks even when standing by the router, attemping to connect ending up with different error messages.

A software reset did not help, tried it several times, still bad signal on wifi and could not connect, same with bluetooth.

Used the phone for 6 months with cellular network only, tried it a couple of time same result.
When i suddenly after living with without wifi for a year just tried wifi again beacuse i was going to show a friend the error message when connecting.
Activated wifi full signal and it connected, Bluetooth working also!
And i have now been using wifi and bt for 3 months with no problem what so ever.

There has been alot of post about broken wifi / bt chip.
Im now sure that this was software related and not a hardware problem, what caused the issue and what solved it i dont know.
