Reset and Combine Anki Decks: Ultimate AnkiApp Guide 2021

I personally used the Anki app on my Android phone and found ways for you to reset and combine Anki decks quite easily.

There’s a lot of buzz about the AnkiApp on the Android community websites and among the Android enthusiasts as to how to combine Anki decks, reset Anki cards, set up AnkiApp, and more. We’ll discuss all that in this article. But before we get started, let’s crack down what AnkiApp is all about.

AnkiApp is a cross-platform mobile and desktop flashcard-based learning application. Flashcards form the foundation of this learning app. You can download pre-made flashcards on any subject or create new ones yourself.

The flashcards support multiple content formats like text, audio, and images for efficient and quick learning. Thanks to its unique algorithm, it maximises learning in each session, so you learn more in less time.

What more? It uses the Spaced Repetition technique to improve memory and help you remember what you’ve learned over a longer period of time. Let’s dive deeper into Spaced Repetition! It is a learning practice where a person is asked to remember a certain fact or statement with increasing time intervals.

For instance, when you first learn the translation of “I’m going to the fruit market” in Spanish, which is, “Voy al mercado de frutas,” you shall address it again over increasing time intervals, viz, 3 hours, 9 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and so on. The objective of Spaced Repetition is better long-term information retention.

Another great feature of AnkiApp is that it chooses the flashcards you need to focus on based on the detailed analysis of your progress. Isn’t that a great use of AI? Well, you’ll learn more about the app in further sections. Read on!

On what devices is AnkiApp available?

The first doubt you may have about the app is whether it’s available on your device or not. Let me clarify it for you!

How does Anki work?

The AnkiApp simplifies its use in three easy steps and they are as follows:

Step 1: Get Material

To get started, you can access and download from a selection of over 80 million pre-made flashcards. Or, you can create your own flashcards.

Step 2: Study

In less than 60 seconds, you can quickly test your knowledge with AnkiApp sessions. Basically, it uses flashcards for questions, and answers can be viewed using the Flip option. More on this, later!

You can track your progress on the go after each session, a good motivator indeed. Not just that, it also displays the graph of fair, hard, good, and easy questions you answered.

Top features of AnkiApp

Want more reasons to use AnkiApp? Maybe check out the below features:

High efficiency learning

The app boasts of the fact that the advanced algorithm used in the app was developed by an ex-neuroscientist. The AI remembers your weak areas and repeatedly confronts you with those flashcards by prioritizing them over the ones you are good at–helping you study stuff you aren’t confident in.

Rich content creation

Yet another great feature of the AnkiApp is that it lets you create your own flashcards with multiple content formats of your choice. You can simply add plain text to the flashcard or even add images and audios on the front and back of the flashcards.

Note that, adding sounds is only supported on the web client and will be soon added to other clients as well.

Moreover, you can also create custom advanced flashcards using HTML and CSS. If you are good at custom styling, what can be more exciting than this?

Cloud-based learning

You can seamlessly connect to devices and access your content. All the flashcards sync to your account and if you plan to switch the device, you can very well do that and still study on it so that there are no interruptions in learning.

Also, you can access the AnkiApp web client free of cost which runs pretty well on Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera.

Global reach

I’m not sure if any app has such an international availability as the AnkiApp. It is available in more than 155 countries or regions with multi-language support such as English, French, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, and Romanian with more language support in progress.

Vast collection

You would be surprised to know that AnkiApp has a collection of more than 80 million flashcards arranged in public flashcard decks from Quizlet, another great web-based study application, with additional resources.

You can upload content from other sources on the AnkiApp in TSV file format. Tools like Online TSV Tools allow you to easily convert to a TSV file format.

Here’s all you need to know about the AnkiApp functionalities. More on combining and resetting decks in the following sections. Read on!

How to combine Anki decks?

A common problem faced by AnkiApp users is that the app often says “You’ve got too many decks.” One possible solution to this is to merge or combine decks which are more or less the same.

What most Anki Users do is, export the decks and name them all the same and import them back to the app. This doesn’t solve the ground issue as the decks are imported with their original names.

Another solution is to individually move notes from one deck to another. Although this method works well to combine Anki decks, it will still be a pain to individually move notes between decks.

So here’s the best way to combine Anki decks. Follow the below steps:

Step 1: On your AnkiApp, tap the Menu button

Step 2: Tap Profile

Step 3: Now, hit the Sync Now option

sync now to combine anki decks

Step 4: Next, on your PC or Mac, hit Sync Now on Anki Desktop

Step 5: Now, select a card you would like to move first, and then use shift commands to select multiple notes. Also, you can use command control to select all the notes in a deck if you would like to move them all.

Step 6: Now, click Change deck in the menu and select the deck where you would like to move the cards

Step 7: Again Sync on Anki Desktop

Step 8: Finally, repeat steps 1 to 3 to Sync again on AnkiDroid

This method works the best to combine Anki decks.

How to reset an Anki card?

This question just doesn’t make sense to me. Why would someone want to reset an Anki card? The sole purpose of using Anki is to use Spaced Repetition technique to remember stuff. Mind that resetting an Anki card would lead to loss of information pertaining to that card.

Even if you have just started with a card and have given fewer reviews, resetting the card isn’t the best choice. Instead, just cut down on the number of old reviews you do per day.

Doing more cards per day doesn’t mean you are learning more because chances are you will forget most of them in the next repetition. So you will eventually end up getting them wrong.

When you get a card wrong, and hit Again, the interval resets by itself, meaning the cards will be converted to new cards as the new cards and wrong cards will have their intervals reset.

If you still want to reset a card, follow these steps:

Step 1: On your Anki Desktop, go to Browse

Step 2: Now, select the cards you would like to reset

Step 3: Next, under the Cards option in the top bar, select Reschedule

Step 4: In the next dialog box, you can change the interval or place the cards at the end of new card queue. Select the ‘Place at end of new card queue’ option and hit OK.

Step 5: Now, you can check in the Browse window that the due date of the reset cards will be erased. The reset cards will appear as New in the deck’s page.

Here you go! You’ve reset your Anki cards in a matter of seconds.
