How to Quickly Root Samsung Galaxy J3
If other Samsung phones have been too costly, the Samsung J3 is an option that’s budget-friendly. It manages to stay under $200, and really doesn’t look half-bad with an option for a stylish metallic-gold finish. However, it doesn’t exactly come in at the top of the list in terms of performance. It’s not bad; just not the best.
It also comes with a Lollipop rather than a fresh Marshmallow. To boot, the phone is saddled with some of Samsung’s usual bloatware.
Rooting your Samsung J3 will afford you more control over your phone’s speed and will allow you to really push your phone harder. You can also optimize your phone’s memory, resulting in better performance. For easy, safe, supported and guaranteed rooting of any android device I have tried Once Click Root and it worked. Apps that eliminate redundancy and improve automation also tend to work better on rooted phones.
Some examples of apps that will help you accomplish these things once your J3 is rooted are:
Before We Begin:
- Verify your device model is a Samsung J3.
- Perform a full backup of your Android.
- Download and install USB drivers on your computer.
- From Security in the Settings menu, enable Unknown Sources.
- Charge your phone.
- Enable USB debugging.
- Go to Settings.
- Press About Phone.
- Tap on Build Number seven times.
- Go back to Settings.
- Click on Developer Options.
- Enable USB Debugging.

Method 1: Root Using Odin and CWM Recovery
TWRP is another great recovery program if you are looking for an alternative to CWM. A smart developer figured out how to exploit the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. Thanks to MasterRt1994.
1. Download Root Package.
- Download and extract these files to your PC:
- Odin
- CWM Recovery or TWRP Recovery (if not previously installed)
- MasterRT1994’s Root for Qualcomm Snapdragon 410
- Right-click on the zip folder and select Extract All. Or, left-click and press the Extract All button from Compressed Folder Tools.
- Now download the SuperSU ZIP, but do not extract anything. Just leave the file intact.
2. Connect J3
- Connect your J3 to your desktop using a USB cable.
- The original USB cable that came with the Samsung is sure to work, provided it’s in good condition.
3. Transfer SuperSU
Transfer the SuperSU file from the rooting kit to your phone’s memory.
4. Download Mode
- Boot into Download Mode.
- Turn off your phone.
- Simultaneously press the Volume Down, Home, and Power
- Use the Volume Up button to the go into Download Mode.
5. Open Odin3.
Odin should identify your device and you should see an Added message in the Odin window.
6. Setup for Root
- Click the AP (or PDA depending on the version of Odin) button and select the .tar.md5 file.
- The box under ID:COM should be blue. If that is not the case, or you don’t see the Added message, try to reconnect your Samsung.
- Ensure that Re-Partition is deselected.
7. Press Start
- Press the Start button to begin rooting. You should soon see a green Pass message.
8. Reboot
- Within a moment or two, your J3 should reboot automatically.
- At that point you can remove the USB cable from your device.
- If your phone does not reboot, do it manually.
- Hold the Power button down until it gives you the option to reboot.
9. Need Recovery?
If necessary, repeat the process to install CWM or TWRP.
10. Once You Have Recovery
- Now it’s time to turn off your phone and reboot into Recovery.
- Pressing the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons should take you into Recovery Mode.
- Once the Samsung logo appears, release.
- Use the Volume buttons to navigate and the Power button to make selections.
11. Install SuperSU
- From the Recovery Menu, use the Volume Keys to navigate to the Install option.
- Locate the SuperSU zip file you moved to the SD card previously by selecting Choose zip from SD card.
- Yes, you want to install the zip file from the SD card.
12. Reboot
- Once installation is complete, touch the Reboot System Now button from the Main Recovery Menu.
- Now not only are you rooted, but you have a recovery program and SuperUser root management as well!
13. Verify Root
- To ensure all went well with the root, open your Applications Menu.
- You should be able to see a new app called SuperSU.
- You can also download an app like Root Checker to verify that your Samsung J3 is successfully rooted.

Method 2: Root Samsung J3 using Kingo Root
Some claim that it can root any Samsung. While I can’t vouch for that, I can attest that many people find this to be a simple and versatile tool. It does consider Samsung to be a very popular brand (and rightfully so), so it’s put a lot of effort towards Samsung devices.
1. Download Kingo Root
Download and install the Kingo Root software to your PC. Windows is necessary for this method. If you are working with a Mac, you will want to use a different method, like Method 1.
Download: Kingo Root
2. Open Kingo Root
Launch the Kingo Root software by double-clicking on the desktop icon. It will let you know that you are not connected.
3. Connect J3
- Plug your Android device in via USB cable. Kingo Root will install the driver for you if you haven’t done so already.
- Be sure to read the Notifications before you move forward.
Note: Stay connected until we’re done.
4. Root
Click on the Root button. This initiates the rooting process and it may take several minutes.
5. Reboot
- Click Finish to reboot your device. Don’t unplug the phone from the PC just yet. Wait until the phone reboots.
6. SuperUser Access
- Grant your phone and yourself SuperUser access.
Kingo Root will verify that your J3 is rooted. Another nice thing about this rooting app is that you also have the option to unroot with just one click.
Method 3: Root Samsung J3 Using Root Genius
Root Genius claims to be able to root any Samsung phone very easily.
1. Download Root Genius
Download: Root Genius
- Install on your desktop.
- You will have to agree to the User Agreement.
2. Launch Root Genius
- Open the Root Genius software. You should see the screen below.
- Click on the Get Started button.
3. Connect J3
- Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
Root Genius should automatically detect your J3.
4. Root Now
- Click the Root It button.
This begins the rooting process. It may take several minutes.
5. Wait for It
- Root Genius should root your J3 and install the KingUser app.
Don’t unplug the phone from the PC just yet.
6. Check for Success
- Open your Apps menu and ensure KingUser is present.
- Confirm your J3 is rooted by using an app like Root Checker.
Conclusion
Rooting can also enable an upgrade to Marshmallow and subsequent updates much faster. Instead of waiting on a service provider to get around to your phone, you can have access as soon as the file is available online. Rooting will also allow you to get rid of the unnecessary bloatware. Would you like to be able to customize your phone? Consider a custom ROM.
If you want to use a method that is made just for Samsung, Method 1 could be your best bet. The rooting file is also especially for the type of processor your J3 contains. Kingo Root and Root Genius both specialize in being able to provide root to a wide array of devices. Over time, more options will probably become available for the J3.
Regret your root? Read the article about how to unroot a Samsung below. You will find the process for unrooting to be similar to the one used to root. Keep in mind that unrooting your device is not without risk.
i cant get custom recoverys to work at all. it says pass but when i go to boot it it just shows the odin screen again
Hi Nick,
Do you get an error message? Have you tried repeating the process? Which custom recovery are you using? =-)

Do you want to know if the twrp-s7262.tar.md5 file will work on your Samsung phone? Just want to make sure I understood your question correctly. Hope to hear from you soon. =-)

SuperSU file is not running or failed
File supersu failed
Try other methods. Let me know the result.
Rooting with Odin and Kingo Root didn’t work. Third option not tested.
Hi Martin,
Let us know if the third option works for you. I hope it does. Thanks for reading. =-)
This piece, while well written needs research. Many of the J3s dont have a root yet, don’t have TWRP available and the author here is a bit irresponsible.
The fact that you advocate use of the info stealing malware known as kingoroot tells me that you probably aren’t a dev, an affiliate marketer perhaps, and a really good writer of clear instructions, just not entirely correct instructions.
Folks, the ONLY site I trust completely for all things root is XDA Developers a cooperative community of the real devs that make the real ROMs and apps we use everyday. I’ve spent many, many hours fixing “helpful, expert” advice from other sites.

Kingoroot doesn’t
None of these options work on my Samsung Galaxy j320A
Hi Ember,
Have you tried these options? =-) https://techsamaritan.com/root-android-without-computer/
Got to the Install Super SU screen. Clicked on Install Super SU, drop down box. Tapped on Install SuperSU. It returned me to previous screen. No exploit list appeared.
I have a SM J320A like Ember above.
it will work if i try to root with root genius my sm-j320m?
Hi Leonardo,
Which method are your referring to? =-)
not worck
Hi There,
Have you tried the following methods? https://techsamaritan.com/root-android-without-computer/
Hello. Im trying to root my device, but when I try to open the recovery it shows a green text on te top left corner saying “recovery is not seandroid enforcing” and only that message. Ive readed that you need to keep pressing the 3 buttons untill it opens the recovery but it does not works for me because they get 3 messages, and I only get 1. Do you know how to solve this?
Hi Richard,
Have you tried performing a factory reset by Wiping Data? =-)
Does this work with J320A
Hi Bob,
I dont see why not. Thanks for commenting. =-)
No All J320A models come with Android V. 7.1.1 installed and you can’t downgrade it to V. 6.0.1.
SORRY !!!!!
None of these options will work on the SM-J320V. The custom recoveries do not work, and root genuis, kingoroot, kingroot, and even towelroot all failed. Yes, i made sure i was installing it correctly, and i tried multiple times. Can you please help me with my model of the galaxy j3?
Hi Vishaan,
Have you seen the methods in the following link? https://techsamaritan.com/root-android-without-computer/
I can corroborate this. need resources for j320v for:
1) to working recoveries
2) recovery stock rom download link from a non payed site
3) working root method
No luck for the j320a. All options fail. With pc and without. Hopefully a custom kernel pops up soon. I think that’s the only way to root the j320a.
Hi There,
Looks like there are more methods for the j320p and not A. Hopefully a method will come soon for that variant. =-)
None of these options work for SM-J320VPP, bootloader is locked and therefore rooting is not possible. Any advises?
Hi Mike,
Have you looked into the methods in the following post? Hope they help and thanks for commenting. =-)
https://techsamaritan.com/root-android-without-computer/
Did you test it on a Samsung SM-320H ? And if yes which of the 3 options did the trick?
It’s not clear to me what to do with this file: MasterRT1994’s Root for Qualcomm Snapdragon 410
Big thanks in advance.
Grtz. Paul….
Tried all methods for my Samsung j3 6(320fn)
Not able to root at all. All NON pc required apps also don’t work. Tried 12 different rooting apps including Chinese and Russian. Checked unlock OEM and still no luck. Any new help will be really appreciated.
Have you tried these apps? Hope they help, if not you can see if at XDA they might be a guide for your specific device if there is any. Sometimes there is just no method available for certain variants.

I have flashed twrp recovery through odin to my samsung galaxy j320f but while installing supersu .zip file it says “e:failed to verify whole file signature ”
Please help me to root my sm-j320f
Did you get through method 1 up to that point?
You can try CWM instead. You can also try to install SuperSU and Root Checker to see if you have it rooted already but running into issues with the Recovery.
There isn’t a twrp for that
o how nice! your twrp link links to a virus! now i have about 20 new programs installed and processes that i cant get rid of
thanks for spotting this. This link is now changed.
What apps and process was added to your phone?
I have also tried all the methods above as well as non PC methods for my Samsung J320W8. Very frustrating! If anyone has success, please help me 🙂
I cant get any custom recovery to work. Odin says pass.
Model Galaxy SM-J320G
CWM – from ur download url
tWRP – does not support SM-320G
Firmware v5.1.1 build # lmy47v.j320gxxuoapk1
try one of these versions of CWM. They might work.
where im supposed to find the .tar.md5 file. with odin ?? there is no file when i click on ad
are you following all of the steps exactly? It sounds like something didn’t download or transfer where it needs to be.
How do i transfer the supersu file to my phone? ive allowed usb debugging and acces to files but i cant drag it from winrar to my phones memory. but it will allow me to drag it from winrar to my computer
